Suzuki S-Cross offers introductory savings
A successor to the SX4, the AWD S-Cross is available in GL and GLX variants, both of which are powered by a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, with 5-speed manual and CVT auto transmissions available, with GLX-spec auto versions featuring a 7-speed 'manual mode' with paddle-shift controls.
Built around a sturdy body, but with high tensile steel construction that reduces weight, the S-Cross is finished in what Suzuki claims is a highly aerodynamic body that reduces drag and thus improves fuel efficiency. A minimal grille opening, contoured front bumper corners, fog lamp bezels and even the wheels have been shaped to smooth airflow over the body.
The AWD system is Suzuki's 'ALLGRIP' technology, a new generation system that combines driving enjoyment and AWD ability with economy and minimal environmental impact. The ALLGRIP found in the S-Cross is four-mode selectable: auto, snow, sport and lock.
Auto prioritises fuel economy, using a default 2WD setting, switching to AWD if wheelspin is detected. Sport makes maximum use of AWD in response to accelerator inputs and is ideal for twisty roads. Snow mode optimises the AWD system for slippery conditions, responding to steering and accelerator inputs to enhance traction. Lock distributes continuous torque to the rear wheels to power through heavy snow, mud or sand.
Other features include disc brakes all round (ventilated fronts) with ABS and EBD, ESC, traction control, seven airbags and body safety modifications in line with Suzuki's TECT (Total Effective Technology Control) concept.
Dimensions are 4.3-metres long, with a 2.6-metre wheelbase, and claimed abundant front and rear seat space. Luggage space, with rear seats upright is 430 litres, the best in class. The S-Cross is also the first vehicle to feature a double panoramic glass sunroof, on the GLX Prestige. Using two overlaid glass panels, the roof offers an opening area of 560mm, one of the largest in this C-segment crossover category.
"The new S-Cross is perfectly matched to the needs of Australian families and active lifestylers," said Suzuki Australia Automobile General Manager Tony Devers.
"Its mix of class-leading interior space, refinement, creature comforts and outstanding fuel economy put atop the shopping list for new car buyers.
"Now, with the added bonus of drive-away pricing, the Suzuki S-Cross lives up to the Suzuki philosophy of outstanding value for money," Devers added.
