2008 Lexus RX350 Sports Luxury
- 3.5lt petrol V6
- 5-speed sports auto transmission
- Full-time four-wheel drive
- 5 seats
- Premium finish and features

By 2008, just five years after its Australian introduction, the ‘RX350’ had become a genuine contender against luxury SUVs from European brands like Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
On its debut – as the RX330 - in 2003, this premium SUV could be had in ‘Sports’ and ‘Sports Luxury’ variants. Mechanical spec was common to both – a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine, five-speed sequential automatic transmission and constant four-wheel drive - with the differences coming down to trim and appointments. The Sports Luxury was the better of the two and priced accordingly.
In 2006, the petrol V6 was increased to 3.5-litre capacity, resulting in more power and torque, with a hybrid variant - the RX400h – introduced in the same year. This combined the old 3.3-litre engine with an electric motor, CVT and on-demand four-wheel drive. Compared to the 203kW and 341Nm peak outputs from the 3.5 V6, the 3.3 hybrid produced only 155kW and 288Nm, but offered better fuel economy.

The 2008 RX350 was essentially the same as the 2007 version, and like the RXs that had come before, was more about luxury on the road than capability off it. The four-wheel drive system was certainly good enough to handle mild off-road challenges, but serious bush bashing would be better left to others. Same goes for the tow rating, which in 2008, was only 1,500kg braked.
With fully independent suspension and disc brakes all-round (solid front, ventilated rear), the premium features on the MY08 RX350 included active auto headlights with Xenon high beams, power windows, power mirrors, power tailgate, power sunroof, powered/heated front seats with memory function for the driver’s seat AND steering column, dual-zone climate control air con, a colour infotainment screen, voice recognition, satnav, an 11-speaker sound system with 6-stack CD/DVD and leather trim with genuine woodgrain accents throughout.

Safety equipment included ABS, ESC, EBA, EBD, traction control and nine airbags. Rear parking sensors and rear-view camera were also standard, but in 2008, front parking sensors were still a few years away. There isn’t an ANCAP rating listed, but the 2008 RX350 scores a 5-star used car safety rating.
Fuel capacity is 72 litres and economy is listed at 11.2lt/100km (91 RON fuel) on the combined cycle. Dimensions are 4740mm x 1845mm x 1735mm (LxWxH), with kerb weight of 1817kg, payload of 563kg and GCM of 3880kg. As mentioned, the RX350’s braked towing capacity is only 1500kg (700kg unbraked).

The RX350 featured here appears to be in very good condition throughout, including the usual wear and impact areas (front bumper, headlights, alloys and driver’s seat). The Granite metallic paint (one of nine colours available in 2008) also appears to be in very good condition, bar some minor scratches around the tailgate. This, along with an odometer reading of 188,039km (11,750km/year average), suggests the vehicle has done some work, but the bulk of that would almost certainly have been on paved roads.
For peace of mind, MAAS Motors can provide a FREE car history report on this vehicle. This applies to all vehicles in stock at MAAS Motors and includes information on registration expiry, ANCAP rating, financial interests and if the vehicle has stolen/write-off history.
