FEATURE - Ineos Grenadier ‘Kaiju Quartermaster’

The Australian arm of UK-based 4x4 vehicle manufacturer, INEOS Automotive, has built a one-off Grenadier Quartermaster cab chassis: the ‘Kaiju Quartermaster’.

Taken from the Japanese word for ‘giant creature’ or ‘monster’, Kaiju is often used to describe the likes of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and other mythical beasts from Japanese science-fiction culture.

For this unique vehicle, the name was chosen to convey the powerful capabilities of the Grenadier, while acknowledging Australia’s love for modified 4x4 utes and SUVs from Japanese manufacturers, like Toyota, Nissan, Isuzu, Mazda and Mitsubishi.

As a base for the their Kaiju, INEOS Automotive’s local team chose the Quartermaster, in enhanced ‘Trailmaster’ spec. In factory form, this dual-cab chassis ute already delivers a class-leading combination of off-road capability and load-carrying versatility for work and adventure.

To make this highly capable vehicle even more capable on Australia’s toughest and most remote trails, INEOS Automotive added items from their own genuine accessory range, along with a raft of extras from some of the most innovative and reputable aftermarket companies.

Suppliers for the Kaiju Quartermaster project included Norweld, Rhino-Rack, MAXTRAX, JMACX, BF Goodrich, Brown Davis, REDARC, STEDI and GME.

While the end result epitomises an iconic, heavily modified Aussie 4x4 overlander, INEOS says the Kaiju project also showcases the infinite customisation possibilities available to Grenadier and Quartermaster customers.

“We wanted to create a truly unique Quartermaster together with some incredibly innovative local engineering and accessory partners,” said Justin Hocevar, Regional Director, APAC for INEOS Automotive.

“The Quartermaster cab chassis is a ‘blank canvas’ that allows for great versatility when it comes to customisation, so together with the project partners, we let our imagination run wild.

“Ultimately, the Kaiju Quartermaster expresses our Australian vision of ‘Built For More’.”

Equipment on this special build includes premium options, such as the Norweld Elite tray and Compact Deluxe Lite canopy that have been engineered to handle extreme conditions while being light in weight. The canopy also incorporates a gutter system and rubber seals to ensure dust and water resistance on extreme off-road adventures.  

To reach the most remote areas, the Kaiju Quartermaster is fitted with a Brown Davis long range fuel tank (#IG23A2). Tucked neatly behind the rear bumper, this adds 168 litres to the factory 90-litre tank capacity, giving explorers ultimate driving range.

To suit long periods off the grid, REDARC’s range of RS3 Pure Sine Wave Inverters, an Alpha150 150A lithium battery and Manager Alpha50 have also been fitted. Their unparalleled performance and enhanced protection give the Kaiju Quartermaster a complete battery management system for the most demanding energy needs.

While not necessarily applicable to the Kaiju Quartermaster, an INEOS Automotive warranty covers the fitment of selected aftermarket components like these - from official accessories partners - when ordered through retailers. This provides customers with cast-iron peace-of-mind that their Grenadier wagon or Quartermaster ute will be covered by the factory warranty, even when customising it to suit their own particular needs.
