MARKS Portal axles
The portal axle assemblies have undertaken full stress testing and have an axle rating of 1530kg. All of the testing was performed with 35-inch tyres fitted - which means you will be able to legally drive your 4x4 on the road with 35-inch tyres. The portal transmissions have a vertical offset of 101 mm, which not only raises the body and chassis, but it also lifts the differentials by the same amount. With the addition of 35-inch tyres the total increase in ground clearance is around 6-inches over standard.
When using this system a suspension lift is normally not required, and if it does, at best a moderate lift of around 25mm to 50mm is all that is required. The control arms and pan hard rods remain virtually flat. Some advantages of minimal suspension modifications are, better handling due to no increase in bump steer, a softer ride can also be experienced with virtually flat control arms and better tracking due to an unchanged caster angle. Improved articulation is also experienced due to the increase in the vehicle track.
