Ford announce Ranger ‘Black Edition’
The Ford Ranger, Australia’s best-selling new vehicle in 2023, will look to maintain its #1 slot this year with the upcoming addition of a new, value-oriented variant – the Black Edition. Aimed at tradies and small business operators, the Black Edition follows a formula that’s been employed by many vehicle manufacturers, including Ford, but is a first for the Ranger.
Based on the entry-level Ranger XL dual cab with the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo 4x4, the Black Edition is primarily a cosmetic package, adding a black sports bar, black side steps and 17-inch Asphalt Black alloys. There’s also a unique grille finish that combines Asphalt Black with Bolder Grey inserts.
More practical additions are a drop-in tubliner with 12V socket and built-in cargo management system, while the wheels are fitted with all-terrain tyres.
“The Ranger Black Edition is perfect for customers who need a ute with all the capability to get the job done during the week, and the features that make it easy to fill their weekends with adventure,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia.
“With the Ranger Black Edition, Ford is proud to be able to add extra value to Australia’s favourite vehicle.”
At $56,680 (plus ORCs), the Ranger Black Edition is $2,300 dearer than the Ranger XL 2.0 dual cab 4x4, but still almost $1,000 cheaper than a Ranger XLS (the next grade up from the XL) in dual cab form with the same engine.
To launch the Ranger Black Edition, Ford are also offering drive-away pricing of $57,990 when finished in Arctic White paint. Depending on delivery destination, this represents a saving of more than $4,000.
Prestige paint is an extra-cost option at $700, as is a manual roller shutter for the tub ($3,000) and a towing pack ($1,900) that includes a tow bar and integrated trailer brake controller. The fuel-saving Auto Stop/Start function is standard, but can be deleted at no cost.
Ford Australia says production of the Ranger Black Edition will be limited to 1,500 units. Orders are open now for delivery before the end of Q3, 2024. For more details and to order, see your Ford dealer.
