4x4 FOR SALE
Here’s a 4x4 currently available at Dan Evans Motors:
2014 Holden Colorado LS
- 2.8-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder
- Six-speed manual
- Dual-range four-wheel drive
- Bullbar, canopy, roof rack, light bars, snorkel and more added
- UHF CB radio and internal drawer system
- 170,948kms
Although Holden’s LG Series Colorado was available with only one engine type – a 2.8-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder – there were two transmission options, 4x4 or 4x2 drive and an array of body styles. The LS was the entry grade ute body in 2014, with the LT and LTZ above that. There was also a more basic DX cab chassis for fleets, along with a ‘Storm’ limited-edition that debuted later in the year (as a 2015 model).
The arrival of the 2014 Colorados brought some welcome improvements, including an upgrade from five speeds to six for the manual transmission and more power from the 2.8 t/d engine – from 130kW to 147kW. Torque improved, too, but only when the six-speed automatic was selected. The difference was significant – 500Nm for the auto versus 440Nm for the manual.
The MyLink infotainment system was also introduced for the MY14 Colorado, with further upgrades announced later in 2014. These mostly applied to the premium LTZ grade, with only minor cosmetic changes to the other grades.
On a 2014 Colorado LS dual cab 4x4 manual like the one for sale with Dan Evans Motors, standard features included a sump guard, front towing hooks, power mirrors, power windows, cloth seat trim and vinyl flooring, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, underseat storage in the second row, a multi-function central touchscreen and six-speaker sound system.
MyLink was praised when new, as were the graphics and legibility of the touchscreen, which at 7 inches is small by today’s standards, but was acceptable at the time.
Standard safety features included ABS, EBD, ESC, Traction Control, Trailer Sway Control, Hill Descent Control and a Hill Holder. Rear parking sensors were standard, but a rear-view camera was an extra-cost accessory on the LS grade. Seatbelt pre-tensioners were part of the package, too, along with driver/passenger airbags, side airbags for the first-row seats (new for 2014) and head airbags for first- and second-row seats. All this was enough for the Colorado LS to score the maximum 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
The Colorado’s grunty performance and dual range 4x4 was praised when new, but the refinement and suspension tuning less so, with complaints about bounciness and poor response to potholes. Given this example runs aftermarket wheels, along with other notable changes, it’s possible it has received a suspension upgrade, but this is not listed in the information provided.
Known items this ute has been fitted with include Sunraysia-style wheels, a bullbar, canopy, roof rack with LED lightbars front and rear, a side awning, snorkel and spotlights. The additional aerial identifies a GME UHF CB, which is the only obvious non-factory feature in the cabin. In the tray, there’s a lockable Titan drawer system and what appear to be additional 12V outlets.
Potential purchasers would be advised to contact Dan Evans Motors to confirm all the aftermarket items fitted to this vehicle.
In terms of the important weights and measures, the MY14 Colorado LS dual cab 4x4 featured a 76-litre fuel tank and listed economy of 7.9lt/100km on the combined cycle. That being said, the weight of the extras fitted to this vehicle will likely increase fuel consumption.
Dimensions of 5347mm x 1882mm x 1780mm (LxWxH) will differ slightly due to add-ons like the wheels and roof rack. Same goes for the 210mm ground clearance and factory kerb weight of 2082kg.
The factory payload of 1068kg would be reduced slightly, given the aforementioned drawer system, while towing capacity is 3500kg (braked). The towbar fitted to this vehicle indicates it has done some towing work in the past.
