2006 Honda CR-V Sport
- 2.4-litre iVTEC petrol engine
- Five-speed automatic
- All-wheel drive
- Full service history
- 191,508km
Despite increasing competition in the compact/crossover SUV space, especially in the past 10-15 years, the CR-V has been one of Honda’s most popular models in Australia. First offered here in 1998, the CR-V was Australia’s top-selling SUV in 2000 and again two years later. The second-generation version was released locally in 2002 and facelifted for the 2005 model year, with a series of special editions released before the third generation CR-V arrived in 2007.
The CR-V offered here is a second-generation 2006 model in ‘Sport’ trim. Initially, the Sport included extras over the base version, like ABS, EBD, cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers/mirror caps/door handles, a hard spare wheel cover, power sunroof and cloth interior trim which could be optioned with leather. However, by 2006, some of these features had been added to the base model.
Standard across the 2006 CR-V range was Honda’s ‘i-VTEC’ 2.4-litre petrol engine. This naturally-aspirated four-cylinder had been introduced to the Australian market with the second-generation CR-V, replacing a 2.0-litre petrol engine that was in the first-gen version.
Producing 118kW and 220Nm, and with combined cycle fuel economy of 10lt/100km, the i-VTEC could be matched to a five-speed manual or, like this example, a five-speed automatic. The five speed auto had been introduced to the CR-V in 2005, replacing a four-speed. A quirk on the Honda sees the auto shifter mounted high up on the dash, while the gearstick for the manual transmission occupies the traditional space on the floor.
Honda’s on-demand all-wheel drive system, ‘REALTIME 4WD,’ made this compact SUV capable in mild off-road conditions and was standard on Australian-market CR-Vs for the first two generations. While FWD was available in some overseas markets, it wouldn’t be offered locally until 2012 with the fourth generation. Suiting off-road use, there’s a full-size spare wheel, which is mounted externally on the side-hinged tailgate.
What off-roading – if any – the CR-V featured here has done is unknown, but the condition of the exterior suggests it’s been a city car for most of its life. Paint is Nighthawk Black, which is one of seven colours that were available on the CR-V Sport for 2006.
With seating for five and luggage space that ranged from 948 to 2038 litres (with a 60:40 split fold rear seat), the CR-V’s upright shape made for a roomy interior, which in this vehicle appears in very good condition throughout and features patterned cloth seat trim.
Being from 2006, this CR-V predates touchscreens, satnav, parking sensors and the like, but does include power mirrors, power windows, air conditioning, a 4-speaker sound system with 6-stack CD player and MP3, plus central locking and the aforementioned power sunroof. CR-Vs like this one also came with a folding picnic table that stored under the floor in the rear. The roof rack on this vehicle appears to be the only non-factory addition.
In terms of safety, this CR-V comes with the ABS and EBD already mentioned, plus ventilated disc front brakes, lap/sash seatbelts for all five seats, driver/passenger and front-row side airbags, but no second-row airbags or ISOFIX mounts for child seats. In period, this CR-V’s ANCAP rating was four stars out of five.
Measures and dimensions include a 58-litre fuel tank, 4630m x 1785mm x 1710mm (LxWxH), a 2625mm wheelbase, 500kg payload and 1200kg braked towing capacity.
With 191,508km on the odometer, backed by a full service history and presenting very well inside and out, this compact AWD SUV is ready to enjoy. Visit Bluestone Automotive at Car City, Ringwood, for more details, or click HERE.
