All-new BMW X1 released
More of a true SUV than of a high-riding wagon, the new X1's platform is shared with the 2 Series Active Tourer and Mini's Countryman. Shorter than its predecessor, the all-new X1 is taller, too, with higher seating for better vision.
Engines are now mounted transversely, freeing up interior room, with the bulk of the gains going to rear seat legroom. Boot space is up by 85 litres to 505 litres, which increases to 1,550 litres with the rear seats folded.
Standard spec for the redesigned X1 includes a rear-view camera (on all model grades), parking assist, sat nav, BMW's ConnectedDrive, real time traffic information, auto tailgate, LED headlights, 18-inch alloys (19-inch on xDrive25i), Driving Assistant safety tech, Intelligent Emergency Call service, and more. All models also get the 'xLine' exterior/interior trim package as standard.
Both xDrive models feature an on-demand AWD system that drives the front wheels only in most circumstances, but can split torque various ways, or even send 100 per cent to the rear axle if required.
The xDrive20d features a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel, producing 140kW and 400Nm, accelerating from 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds, and with listed economy of 4.9lt/100km. With output figures of 170kW and 350Nm, the xDrive25i is the leading performer across the X1 range, with a 6.5 second 0-100km/h sprint time and 6.6lt/100km economy, courtesy of its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine.
The four-paw versions of the X1 are priced at $56,500 for the xDrive 20d and $59,900 for the range-topping xDrive 25i.
