Just arrived - This 1985 Jeep Cherokee Limited is a gorgeous piece of history. The Wagoneeer was the four door variant to its Cherokee sibling, though was sold under the Cherokee namesake in Australia. It was available in Australia as a Knock Down Kit, assembled in Brisbane, for another three years after the XJ model overtook in the US in 1983. After American Motors Corporation purchased Kaiser Jeep Corporation in early 1970, they continued to refine and upgrade the available models. The Limited was the most luxurious 4x4 ever produced at that time and came packed with features. This included, power steering, power windows including rear window, power-adjustable leather bucket seats, central locking, cruise control, leather wrapped steering wheel, roof rack, forged aluminium wheels, power disk brakes and air conditioning. This SJ was orignally purchased from new optioned with a sunroof, minimal badging, a factory Jeep towbar, and factory sunvisor. It is powered by a 360ci (5.9L) AMC V8, as was standard for the 1985, and a 3 speed automatic transmission with Selec-Trac part/full time four wheel drive system. After its purchase in 1985, the previous owner then used it to tow his caravan around Australia. The motor recieved a rebuild at 215,000kms from South West Automotive in NSW and has done very few kms since. Now on its second owner, the SJ has been fitted with a 650 double pump Holley Carburettor, Extractors, Edelbrock headers, Edelbrock manifold, Edelbrock rocker covers, a reconditioned radiator, and has been nicely tuned to run like new - if not better. The bonnet, roof and front passenger door have recieved a respray, and the hood lining refinished. Other than that, the SJ remains as a well-loved original. It comes with a large stock of parts accumulated over the years, including brand new wiring harness, spare instrument cluster, the original air conditioning unit, matching spare wheel, factory fitted sunvisor, and much more. This is a great example of a rare luxury 4x4, with plenty of room for the whole family and a motor that'll happily cruise along all day. More interior photos to come.
