Mazda release BT-50 ‘Boss’ edition
Based on the GT dual cab 4WD pickup (the previous premium model), the BT-50 Boss is a regular production model and not a special series or limited edition.
“The new Boss grade amplifies the tough Ute’s looks and adds quality equipment to improve the ownership experience,” says Mazda Australia Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi.
“Adding the Boss grade to our line-up gives customers the option to purchase an already customised, accessory loaded Mazda BT-50 that will stand out from the crowd.”
Available only as a dual cab 4WD pickup body and only in Snowflake White, the Boss is similar to the Kuroi Pack from a few years ago, defined by a blackout treatment for the grille, lower fascia, mirror caps, door handles, sidesteps and sports bar. The Boss also gets a soft tonneau cover in black, wheelarch flares and beadlock-look, 8-spoke 17-inch alloys in black. Completing the exterior package are bodyside decals, including an identifying ‘Boss’ stripe that runs the length of the body.
Inside, the Boss adds a premium Alpine sound system with all-new S-Series carbon fibre reinforced plastic component speakers. The eight-speaker set-up consists of four 6.5-inch speakers that feature High Amplitude Multi-Roll Surround technology for high linearity and accuracy, two rear speakers that incorporate tweeters, and two independent 1-inch silk dome tweeters located in the A-pillar for what’s said to be pleasant upper range sound.
The are no other changes, meaning the Boss runs the same 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and six-speed auto as the GT, and also has that model’s 1,039kg payload and 3,500kg towing capacity.
Interior touches and tech include leather-trimmed seats with 8-way power adjustment on the driver’s seat, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth, sat nav, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, power mirrors and tailgate central locking.
A comprehensive safety suite includes Traction Control. Roll Stability Control, Trailer Sway Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, a reversing camera, ABS, EBD, EBA and Emergency Stop Signal, as well as front, side and curtain airbags.
Now available, the BT-50 Boss carries a drive away price of $55,990. See your Mazda dealer for details.
