Ford previews Endura SUV
Ahead of its arrival in December, Ford has released details on their Endura SUV. Positioned between the Escape and the Everest, the Endura (known as the Edge in overseas markets) is pitched as a premium mid-sized SUV with a high level of standard features and tech.
Recently-appointed Ford Australia President and CEO, Kay Hart says the Endura will be something new in the local market: “Endura presents Australians with an SUV unlike anything we’ve offered before in terms of equipment, design and sophistication.
"Endura sits in its own space as a premium offering that we’ve previously not offered.” To be offered in three model grades – Trend, ST-Line and Titanium – the Endura is a 5-seater on a 2849mm wheelbase and offers what is said to be the greatest head and shoulder room of any Ford SUV.
The sole drivetrain offered is a 2.0-litre common-rail turbo diesel producing 140kW and 400Nm, matched to an eight-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, that delivers claimed fuel economy of 6.7lt/100km. A choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is offered on each of the three Endura model grades, with braked towing capacity listed at 2000kg and with Trailer Sway Control standard.
Other standard features include LED cornering lamps, foglamps and tail lights, power mirrors, keyless entry, a 10-way power driver’s seat, 10-inch digital instrument display, 8.0-inch centre console touchscreen, Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility, DAB+ radio, built-in sat-nav and Ford MyKey functions.
Safety and driver assist tech common to all grades includes ‘AdvanceTrac’ traction control with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control, ABS with EBD, AEB with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Hill Start Assist, Evasive Steer Assist, Forward Collision Warning, TPMS, seat belt warning system and eight airbags.
Above this, the Endura ST-Line adds sports tuned suspension, an ST-Line body kit, black exterior detailing, 20-inch alloys, heating and memory function to the exterior mirrors, a power tailgate with handsfree operation, Ebony Miko Suede perforated seat trim with leather accents, memory function on the driver’s seat and 10-way power adjustment on the passenger seat, heating and cooling on the front seats, aluminium floor pedals and scuff plates, plus a rear cargo net and blind.
The range-topping Endura Titanium adds adaptive Bi-LED headlights and features a different 20-inch wheel design, with other standard features including a panoramic glass roof and chrome headlight trim, while Blind Spot Detection with cross-traffic alert and Enhanced Active Park Assist is added to the tech features list.
Salerno micro-perforated leather-accented seats feature inside the Titanium, along with heated second-row seating, illuminated aluminium front scuff plates and memory function on the adjustable steering column.
The Titanium’s panoramic glass roof is optional on the lower grades, with a tow bar and prestige paint available across all three, with other options (depending on model grade) including a DVD rear seat entertainment system, Premium B&O 12-speaker audio system and a 180-degree front-split view camera.
