Early 'Cruiser sells for big money in USA
Early examples have been treated to comprehensive restorations, as well as restomod-style upgrades and modifications.
At Auctions America's recent auction in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a fully restored 1980 model FJ40 was amongst the hundreds of classics, muscle cars, motorcycles and memorabilia consigned.
This one was restored by experts, FJ Company, which included a full driveline rebuild using all Toyota parts. Upgrades include a new PRO COMP suspension set-up and new soft-top, but the vehicle still carries its manual and original toolkit.
Early off-roaders were fairly thin on the ground at this auction, which may explain the price it sold for: $52,000 (AU$57,200 approx.), including buyer's premium.
