Vic Police choose Colorado divvy vans
After Victoria Police confirmed last year that their future highway patrol fleet would be made up of BMWs, it was revealed in February that future divisional vans, aka ‘divvy vans’, would be based on the Holden Colorado. A total of 290 purpose-built Colorado divvy vans will be produced for the Victoria Police, 250 of which will be single cab 4x2 versions with purpose-built rear pods. Surprisingly, given the single cab, the prisoner/custody pod is only capable of transporting two people, but does include a 360-degre camera and air conditioning.
The 4x2 models for the Victorian Police run higher ground clearance than standard and feature six airbags in the cabin.
The remaining 40 units in the order will be based on the Colorado 4x4 dual cab and are designed for use in rural and remote areas.
These divvy vans will carry similar features to the 4x2 versions, but come with off-road items, like a bullbar and winch, as standard.
Michael Filazzola, Holden’s Executive Director of Sales, said: “Holden’s Australian engineers have worked collaboratively with Victoria Police to create a vehicle that is not only designed specifically for Australian conditions but is the safest vehicle possible to protect their frontline members.
“The Holden Colorado offers Victoria Police the leading safety and performance attributes needed for modern policing.”
The first 4x2 Colorado divvy vans are already in use in certain city and inner suburban areas, with the 4x4 versions due to be deployed by mid-year. The complete roll-out of all 290 Colorado-based divisional vans is due by early 2020.
