Variety 'Coal to Gold' 4WD Adventure 2013
Running from March 11 - 16, the Variety "Coal to Gold" 4WD Adventure kicks off in Singleton, a town at the heart of the state's massive coal fields. The finish point is Bathurst, one of New South Wales' premier goldfields areas.
The six day journey is set to include a host of highlights both on and off the road, including a run through the Goonoo State Conservation Area, off-roading in the Nangar National Park, as well as stops at Tamworth, Dubbo and Parkes, before crossing the finish line with a lap around Bathurst's famous Mount Panorama!
If you're a bit of a 4x4 novice, have no fear, the Coal to Gold 4WD Adventure is not a seriously hard-core off-road trek where you'll have to push your vehicle to the limit. While there are some challenging off-road sections, there are gravel and tarmac sections as well, and the whole Adventure is well supported.
Variety's Motoring Events Manager, Stuart Telfer says, "The Variety 4WD Adventure is a perfect holiday as it offers a balance of real life adventure with resort style accommodation and fine dining so participants don't have to rough it. It's a perfect getaway for couples or solo adventurers who can enjoy the benefits of hitting the road with like-minded individuals, all while raising money for Australia's special needs kids."
The cost for the 4WD Adventure is $6,276 for two, which includes a $3,000 fully tax deductible donation to Variety to purchase much needed equipment for Australia's special needs children, with the rest of the fee covering all accommodation, official meals entertainment and merchandise. Partakers of the event are encouraged to fundraise the full fee prior to the Adventure, calling on friends, family and the community to get involved in supporting this worthwhile cause.
ITINERARY DETAILS
The Adventure starts in Singleton with a meet 'n greet BBQ at the historic home, Baroona which was built in 1823 and was the birthplace (and now final resting place) of dual Melbourne Cup winner Peter Pan.
The convoy will then head through our rich "country music" territory of Tamworth for a bit of line dancing before going on to the Warrumbungle's around Coonabarabran followed by pizzas and pottery in the Pilliga.
A run through the Goonoo State Conservation Area will see the group arrive in Dubbo to feed the animals at the Zoo.
The historic Dubbo Gaol's exercise yard will be the scene of a recovery breakfast and fitness test ahead of a night's star gazing in Parkes.
From there the group will head to Nangar National Park, which at more than 9,000 hectares will provide fantastic terrain for some serious 4WD driving on the way to Orange and dinner at one of Saint Mary MacKillop's Convents.
The final day will take the motoring enthusaists to the Gold Fields of Bathurst with a run through Ophir, a mine tour full of gold field history at Hill End before finishing in Bathurst.
