Jayco unveils 2023 caravan range
Jayco Australia has taken the wraps off its 2023 caravan range, which includes new features and updates to existing models, as well as two all-new arrivals – the Wren and JPod-X compact camper trailers.
Both new additions are aimed at couples (or single parents with a child) looking to explore and wanting an uncomplicated, affordable camper trailer to do it with.
Jayco Wren
Jayco’s new entry-level camper trailer, the Wren offers an RV experience similar to the existing Penguin model, but with a lighter tow weight and lower price point of around $25,000.
Built on the galvanised Endurance chassis, with Maxi frame walls, a heavy-duty canvas and boltiflex tent section and a hail-resistant, insulated one-piece fiberglass roof, the Wren is available in Touring and Bushpack grades.
Travel dimensions of 4740mm x 2240mm x 1660mm (LxWxH) expand to 5880mm length and 2085mm height when opened, with other key measures including tare weight of 925kg, towball download of 60kg and loading weight of 415kg.
With no fold-out beds, setting up is the Wren as easy as winding up the pop-top roof, putting the door in place and extending the slide-out step.
The integral double bed has orthopaedic slats, an innerspring mattress, bespoke linen and storage space underneath. A seating/dining area for two, 95-litre fridge/freezer, additional storage space, lighting, a smoke detector and curtains/screens all round complete the interior fitout.
To maximise interior space, the Wren’s kitchen is a slide-out external unit, with a two-burner cooktop, sink and food prep area. There’s a mounting point for a 9kg gas bottle on the drawbar and an 80-litre fresh water tank is built in.
The Wren Bushpack has most of the same features as the Touring grade, but changes the axle to an underslung type to increase ground clearance, upgrades the suspension, enlarges the wheels to 15-inch and adds additional checkerplate protection to the lower flanks.
A 100Ah battery for both grades handles the electrical demands, with a built-in battery management system and 240v charger, while monitoring of battery and water tank level can be done via Bluetooth and a related app.
Options for both grades include a roof-mounted air conditioner, roof-mounted solar panels, various awning configurations, a battery upgrade, larger fresh water tank and D035 coupling outside, with a 24-inch TV/DVD player, CD/radio with internal/external speakers and LED control panel optional inside.
Jayco JPod-X
Even more compact than the Wren, the JPod-X takes the formula already proven on other models in the JPod range and adds improved convenience features.
Priced at $30,440 (approx.), the JPod-X’s key features include side access doors previously unavailable on the JPod range, which has led to the slide-out kitchen unit (two-burner cooktop, sink and food prep space) moved to the nearside rear and the previous portable fridge/freezer space replaced with a fitted upright 65-litre fridge/freezer that’s accessible via the rear hatch.
For weather protection when prepping and cooking meals, a 270-degree Escape by Jayco batwing awning is standard.
Inside, the JPod-X double bed features an innerspring mattress, fan, reading light and additional storage space (overhead and underbed) all as standard.
Other JPod-X features include Toughframe walls, a heavy-duty roof rack, JTECH independent suspension, 15-inch wheels, 80-litre fresh water tank, jerrycan and gas bottle holders, a large front toolbox, LED lighting, checkerplate side protection and 240V/12V power outlets.
With travel dimensions of 4390mm x 1970mm x 2300mm (LxWxH) interior height of 1295mm and interior width of 2788mm, the JPod-X weighs 930kg, with a towball weight of 80kg.
Width is the same as the JPod Sport, but the JPod-X is taller and longer, as well as being heavier than the 760kg Sport, thanks to the additional standard features inside and out, like the cooktop, batwing fairing, dual access doors and fridge/freezer.
Options include TPMS, anti-lock electric braking, a hard-top roof tent and external picnic table.
Battery set-up is the same as the JPod Sport, with a 100Ah AGM battery with built-in management system, Bluetooth battery/water tank monitoring and external Anderson plug for solar input.
MY23 Upgrades
Beyond the two new additions, most existing models in the Jayco range will receive lithium battery upgrades for 2023, along with more solar capacity and DC/DC charging capability.
The Off Grid-X upgrade can now be had with the Intelli-Jay High Power management system, 400Ah lithium battery, three solar panels with related controller, 180 AMP charging and a 3000W inverter.
Jayco says introducing this new option allows travellers to stay powered off the grid for longer.
Currently available for Jayco’s All-Terrain caravans only, the Off Grid-X upgrade will be available on other models later this year.
Other 2023 updates include anti-lock braking on All-Terrain and Pop Top models, while larger shock absorbers, new water filler plumbing, a pressure fill inlet for rapid tank filling and improved internal cupboard space has been introduced across the range.
“At Jayco, we are proud to be Australian made and operated. Our team is leading the way on innovation while always listening to our customers and aiming to improve and modify our current ranges to suit their wants and needs,” said Jayco National Sales Manager Scott Jones.
“The trend of off-grid RVing continues to grow, so we have kept this in mind when working on improvements and innovation in our solar and battery offerings across the range as well as the introduction of the Off Grid-X upgrade.”
