Ford Everest updated for 2024
Ford Australia has announced upgrades to their Everest SUV for 2024, along with a revision of the model range. The ‘MY24.5’ Everest will also gain an all-new feature in the form of ‘Pro Trailer Backup Assist,’ which will be available as part of an option pack for selected Everest 4x4 grades, along with some Ranger ute grades.
Standard on the locally-released F-150 full-size pickup, Pro Trailer Backup Assist is designed to make reversing a trailer easier. Ford says the system removes the counterintuitive process of turning the steering wheel one way to make the trailer go the other by removing manual steering wheel adjustment altogether.
“Because reversing a trailer requires you to turn the steering wheel left to make the trailer go to the right, it can be difficult to get your head around, even if you’ve done it loads of times,” said Zack McIntyre, advanced driver assist systems engineer, Ford.
“With Pro-Trailer Back Up Assist, you can 'steer’ your trailer down a boat ramp quickly and easily, or position your camper perfectly every time.
“The driver ‘steers’ the trailer via the outer ring of the drive mode controller on the centre console. As the driver turns the dial, the steering wheel - which the driver doesn’t need to touch during the manoeuvre - turns to direct the trailer where it needs to go.”
Pro Trailer Backup Assist will be optional on the Everest Trend 4x4 and Sport 4x4 as part of a ‘Touring Pack’. This replaces the Zone Lighting and stand-off roof rail options, both of which are now standard features for these model grades. On the Everest Platinum, Pro Trailer Backup Assist will be part of a Pro Towing Pack that’s exclusive to this grade and includes the tow bar and integrated brake controller from the existing Towing Pack.
A revised model lineup for the MY24.5 Everest sees the Trend 4x2 dropped, but rear-wheel drive versions of the Ambiente and Sport will still be available. The Everest Wildtrak that was released late last year and limited to 800 units for Australia will not be retained for the MY24.5 range.
All Everest grades saw a price rise, effective from 1 January, 2024, but this will not rise further on the MY24.5 models, which are already being built ahead of local delivery before the middle of this year.
Everest MY24.5 pricing starts at $53,990 for the Ambiente 4x2, $63,490 for the Sport 4x2 and $66,790 for the Trend 4x4, all of which run the 2.0 bi-turbo diesel four-cylinder engine and 10-speed automatic. The 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 remains exclusive to the Platinum 4x4, which is priced at $79,490 (all pricing excludes ORCs).
The Touring Pack option with Pro Trailer Backup Assist for Everest Trend and Sport 4x2 is $2,500, while the new Pro Towing Pack for the Everest Platinum is a $2,900 upgrade.
